Better service for picking up medication
Our practices are improving the service we give you when you have to pick up medication through a prescription.
All prescriptions are always sent electronically to your chosen pharmacy for you to pick up – paper ones are only given in exceptional circumstances.
But now, you can pick up your medication from any pharmacy you wish, as long as you give them your NHS number.
The pharmacy will retrieve your prescription from the NHS system and dispense your medication.
You can still go to the same pharmacy you always usually go to if you wish, and it always helps us if we know which pharmacy that is.
You don’t have to do anything to access this new service, but if you don’t know your NHS number, ask your clinician when they are issuing your prescription.
Electronic prescriptions help save the NHS money, they are secure and confidential, and, if a pharmacy doesn’t have your medication in stock, you can go to another one to pick it up, or visit one you are passing or one nearer to your workplace rather than your home.
