Keeping your feet warm might not be a problem for most people in the height of summer – but it is a nightmare for the homeless in winter.
Our Wigan and Leigh practices are helping by collecting new socks for donation to the Wigan and Leigh homeless charity, The Brick.
Patients and the public can drop off good quality socks at the surgery during July and they will be given to The Brick in August ready to store for the colder weather for homeless people in the area.
SSP Health’s Claire Doherty came up with the idea after learning that the least donated articles of clothing to The Brick were socks.
She said: “After speaking to my auntie who works for The Brick, I learned that socks are one of the most needed items of clothing for the homeless. People tend to donate all other items but not socks.
“I thought it would be a great idea to organise an annual sock drive – The SSP Health Annual Sock Appeal.
“We will collect socks in our practices throughout the month of July and then in August we will deliver them to The Brick ready for when the cold weather comes. After all, everybody deserves warm feet!”
