Bolton General Practice held a celebration event to applaud the work of practice volunteers, say thank you to carers in the community and raise awareness of dementia.

This week has been Carers Week, National Patient Participation Week and Dementia Awareness Week and patients and staff joined together for a series of events at the practice on Moor Lane.

There was armchair yoga lessons given by Priya Punan and Carol McLoughlin, of Citizens Advice Bolton, was on hand to offer advice about carers benefits. Lunch was kindly provided by Zahid Atcha, from Cheisi Ltd.

Health Care Professional Balasz Stein was also there to offer health advice to patients.

Bolton General Practice staff at the event included Dr Jay Mylvaganam; HCA Donna Connolly; Practice Managers Vicki Hoinville and Leela Hinder; Area Manager Jane Wallace; receptionists Leesa Hamer, Katie Wilson and Aimee Roberts; and Patient Liaison Officer Narmada Patel.

Dr Mylvaganam said the event had been a success adding: “I have seen patients smiling that he I’ve never seen smile before!”

One patient said: “This got me out of the house. I don't see anyone from one week to another. The only people I talk to are the receptionists at the surgery. I loved it.”

Another said: “That chair yoga really got my heart going. When can we do it again?”

And a third patient added: “I had help with a form from the lady at Citizens Advice. She has taken a lot of worry off my shoulders. Thank you for inviting us.”

And another of the practice’s patients, who has recently been beavered, thanked the staff and said: “You have really helped. It has got me out of the house.”
