Practice Nurse Janine Hussey, who goes the extra mile to care for her patients, has been recognised with a regional award for her dedication.

Janine has won the People’s Champion section of this year’s Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards.

She was selected for her dedication to many aspects of her work at the SSP Health GP practice, including her care for elderly patients, work with the LGBTQ community and time spent helping at charity events.

Janine visits many frail, elderly patients in their homes and often goes to buy food and other essentials for them at local shops.

The award organisers said: “Practice Nurse Janine Hussey was crowned the People’s Champion after being nominated by multiple patients.

“Janine is not only a dedicated and inspiring Practice Nurse, she actively supports her local food bank and trains nurses from another practice on her days off.

“Janine has established great links with the local LGBT community and has been known to help her patients with shopping and cooking during her home visits.”

She also took part in a ‘Pride In Practice’ video highlighting how GP surgeries can be involved in the quality assurance support service that strengthens and develops Primary Care Services’ relationship with their lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans patients within the local community.

Janine has also been heavily involved in charity initiatives, including a Mission Christmas event last year.

She is part of a successful team at The Height.

The practice been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by health watchdog the CQC and recently achieved 100% in its QoF good practice results.

SSP Health’s Director Dr Shikha Pitalia said: “We are so proud of Janine and it is wonderful that the dedication to her patients at our practice has been recognised in this way.

“Janine was up against some other amazing healthcare professionals for this award but her willingness to go above and beyond her responsibilities to ensure the patient leaves the practice satisfied shone through.

“The Height is one of our ‘Outstanding’ practices and Janine and her colleagues are an inspiration to us all.”

Janine said: “It was humbling to receive such an award. Thank-you staff and patients for voting for me.”
