Dr Shikha Pitalia, SSP Health Director, GP and Advisor on the British Asian Trust, is making an urgent appeal for your support to help India...
You will have seen in the news and your social media feeds the devastation that the pandemic is having in India right now.
Each day, a new world record is set for the number of COVID cases (349,691 in the last 24 hours), with the peak still to come. Hospitals have stopped admitting patients because they are running low on vital supplies and equipment, including oxygen and ventilators, leaving people helpless as they watch their loved ones die on stretchers outside the hospital doors.
We simply cannot stand by and do nothing.
I am an Advisory Council member of the charity the British Asian Trust, which was founded by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales.
The Trust has been consulting with the Indian and UK governments, their Advisors and programme partners in India, and have outlined a package of support that will complement what industry, government and other charities are doing to help.
Their focus will be supporting and supplementing the efforts on oxygen provision, as well as wider support to help those in most need right now and in the aftermath of this surge in cases.
But they can only help people right now if we help by donating.
Wherever you are in the world, you can donate securely on JustGiving here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/indiacovidappeal
Together, we have an opportunity to answer the SOS from India.
If you have any questions about the wonderful work of the British Asian Trust, do let me know.
