Women in Wigan can have a smear test without an appointment next week when walk-in centres will give them a screening.
It is Jo’s Trust Cervical Screening Awareness Week, when women are encouraged to have a smear test. Screening is the best protection against cervical cancer, with the Jo’s Trust programme saving 5,000 lives every year.
Patients due a test with SSP Health practices at Lower Ince Surgery and Higher Ince Surgery can turn up at a walk-in centre to have their smear test done.
The drop-in cervical smear clinic will operate at Lower Ince Surgery, at Claire House, on Phoenix Way, in Ince, on Wednesday, June 19th from 7am to 9am, and on Thursday, June 20th from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
The drop-in clinic will also be operating at Higher Ince Surgery, at Ince Community Centre, on Manchester Road, Ince, from 8am to 10am on Friday, June 21st.
Also, at part of the awareness week, staff at SSP Health are being given the chance to have their smear test done at any of the company’s practices irrespective of where they are registered, to ensure they do not need to take time off work to have their screening.
