Local pharmacies are available to provide blood pressure and minor illness services. The community pharmacists are available for routine blood pressure checks and can treat conditions for:

• Bites or stings with minor redness or swelling
• Coughs, colds, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, cold sores, mouth ulcers
• Mouth or toothache
• Blocked or runny nose, excess mucus, hayfever
• Earache, ear wax, blocked ear, hearing problems
• Constipation or diarrhoea
• Infant colic, heartburn, indigestion
• Haemorrhoids or rectal pain
• Nausea or vomiting
• Sleep difficulties or tiredness
• Gynaecological issues such as cystitis, itching, discharge or soreness

• Acute pain or swelling such as headache, limb pain or swelling, back pain, migraine, sprains and strains
• Skin issues such as acne, athlete’s foot, dry skin, hair loss, nappy rash, thrush, allergic rash, ringworm, threadworm, scabies, warts, verrucae, wound problems
• Urinary infections (UTIs)
• Sore throat
• Impetigo
• Infected insect bites
• Acute sinusitis
• Acute otitis media
• Shingles

Our FCP offers appointments for all aspects of musculoskeletal problems. They can assess, advise and treat where possible for problems such as:

• Knee pain
• Back pain
• Joint pain
• Stiffness
• Aches and pains

Where appropriate they can:

• Book scans or X-rays
• Arrange blood tests
• Refer to secondary care
• Provide physio and/or exercise advice
• Arrange/give Joint injections

Our ACPs are available to discuss most common new acute illnesses, including:

• New cough
• Cold symptoms
• Sore throat
• Rash / skin problem
• Urine infections
• Abdominal pain

• Leg swelling

• Lumps and bumps
• Sinus problems
• Change in bowels
• Palpitations
• Non-urgent chest pain

ACPs offer a wide range of patient services, including:

• Advice
• Recommend prescription treatment
• Referrals
• Test requests

Our Social prescriber offers appointments for patients who require help and advice with social factors impacting health. This is an essential part of Personalised Care that enables referral to ‘Link Workers’ who can then give patients the time they need while focusing on ‘What matters to me’, which creates a more rounded approach to people’s health and wellbeing. They connect patients to community groups and services for practical and emotional support. Social Prescribing works for a wide range of patients, including those:

• who are lonely or isolated
• with one or more long-term conditions
• who have complex social needs which affect their health or wellbeing (such as housing, benefits, employment or education)
• who need support with their general wellbeing

Our pharmacists are available to discuss all aspects of medication.Pharmacists offer a wide range of patient services, including:

• Routine medication reviews
• Structured medication reviews
• Discuss side effects or concerns
• Provide instructions on how best to take treatments
• Give advice on over the counter and self-help treatments
• Review newly started medications
• Prescription alignment

Our Mental Health Nurse offers initial signposting appointments for mental health conditions and reviews for patients recently started on medication. Please note this is a non-urgent service and number of appointments offered are limited.

Services include:

• depression
• anxiety
• other long term mental health conditions

Where appropriate the Mental Health Nurse can:

• review and signpost patients into wider services for support
• assess patients who are suffering with a new mental health presentation
• provide advice
• Refer to other mental health services
• Refer to GP as required

• Attending A+E (Whiston Hospital) if risks are too high
