Patient Participation Groups

Our Aim

Our aim is to work with the Practice to improve the experience of our patients when they need to access health advice or treatment.

We see ourselves as a listening ear for patients to tell us about what they like and don’t like in the Practice and we are then the ‘Patient Voice’ in taking these issues to Board or the Practice and trying to suggest appropriate improvements for the benefit of our patients.

Who Are We?

  • The Patient Partnership Group was established in September 2009 and following the retirement of its founder members was re-formed in April 2014.
  • Ashton and Golborne now have a joint PPG, made up of patients from both surgeries, who work together on joint enterprises like the annual Patient Survey. We would welcome patients of all ages to come and join us.
  • Our meetings are held at 12noon on the second Wednesday of the month at the Ashton surgery and patients are welcome to come and meet us or pass on items they would like us to raise with the Practice.  Please note we do not discuss individual medical matters.

  • We have campaigned for improvements to the plans for the new Medical Centre in Ashton
  • We encouraged the Practice to make improvements for the benefit of patients, particularly in the appointment systemWe represented the views of patients to the inspection team from the CQC (Care Quality Commission)
  • We have had a PPG representative on interview panels for clinical and reception staff.
  • Two of our members attend all Board meetings and take an active role in suggesting improvements to the Practice and monitoring any changes that would have an impact on our patients.  We also write quarterly reports for Board on PPG activities and discussions.
  • We represent our patients by attendance at Wigan Clinical Commissioning Group Locality meetings.  The CCG organises most of the health services in our area
  • We have created leaflets for patients on ‘Booking Appointments’, ‘Obtaining Test Results’ and ‘Referrals’, available in both paper form and on this website
  • We continue to add information to the TV display and PPG noticeboard in the waiting room
  • We work with staff to help in the writing of the quarterly Newsletters.

.

Continuing and Future Plans

  • We will continue to do our best to help ensure the continuity of good care in our practice in areas such as the contract renewal process and the future move to the new Health Centre
  • We are working to ensure that our contributions to the website, TV and noticeboard stay topical and useful to our patients.
  • We continue to find out about local services which may be useful to patients such as the Link Worker, Wigan and Leigh Carers Service and Dementia Buddies
