Services Available

Booking a routine appointment

You can book a routine appointment by telephone or by calling into the practice. You can also book a telephone consultation with a doctor or nurse. The receptionist will take a message and your contact number. You can express a preference to see a particular clinician when you book an appointment. You can book an appointment up to six weeks in advance.
 

Urgent appointments

The practice runs a pre-booked appointment system but, if you feel that your condition is urgent, you can be given an appointment on the same day. You can also speak to a doctor or nurse on the telephone at the end of their surgery. The receptionist will take a message and your contact number.
 

Arriving late for an appointment

Please ensure that you arrive on time for your
appointment or you may be asked to re-book.
 

Cancelling appointments

Please notify the practice as soon as possible if
you cannot attend your appointment, so that it
can be offered to another patient.

EPS (Electronic prescription services)

The Practice provides electronic prescribing for ease of the patients; please nominate a local pharmacy if you are interested in this service

 

Repeat prescriptions
Requests for repeat prescriptions can be made by bringing in your repeat prescription slip (right side of your prescription) into the surgery, or online. Please ask Reception for more information regarding registering online.

 

Please do not request repeat prescriptions by telephone as this can result in mistakes. Please ensure we have 48 hours’ notice to check and issue the prescription.

 

Always request your medication in good time and do not run out!

 

Patient Online

We are now able to offer our patients, who have internet access to book, cancel and change appointments online and order medication.

If you wish to register for this service please speak to Reception staff and they will be able to advise you further.

 

Other services

We also provide other services which are not available on the NHS. These services include:

Sickness or Accident Insurance Forms, Private Healthcare Forms, Holiday Cancellation Forms, Fitness to Travel Certificates, HGV, Sports and Driving Medicals. Ask Reception for more details on fees.

GP Appointments

Home visits

If you require a home visit from a doctor, please inform the surgery before 11am and give the receptionist the precise nature of your illness. The doctor will make a house call the same day. Home visits should be only requested when the patient is too ill to attend the practice and could only be moved by ambulance. Non-availability of public transport is NOT a valid reason for a home visit.

The practice has weekly antenatal clinics on Wednesday with the Community Midwife.

 

Blood Tests

Phelbotomy services provided in house every morning before 10.30am.

Directions

Atherleigh Way is the main carriage way from the A580 East Lancashire Road. The practice is approximately 3 minutes from the junction off the A580.

 

The practice is within the Leigh Centurions Stadium with parking directly in front or to the side of the stadium.

Public Transport

For those travelling by public transport, Leigh bus station is situated in the town center The bus station is a 10 minute walk from the practice, or alternatively the 597 bus service, operated by South Lancs Travel, runs directly from the bus station to the Leigh Sports Village.

Online Services for Leigh Sports Village Practice

How can I start using GP online services?

 
  1. Follow these steps to access GP online services: 
  2. Take photo ID (passport or driving licence) and proof of address (such as a utility bill) to your GP practice and tell them you want to start using their online services. If you do not have any ID then either a member of staff will have to confirm your identity or you may have to answer questions about personal information in your GP record.
  3. Fill in the short registration form that you are given by your practice.
  4. Once you have signed up, you will receive a letter with your unique username, password and instructions on how to log in.

Our Patient Participation Group works to improve communication between the practice and its patients, to ensure the services we offer meet the needs of all patients. We are always looking for enthusiastic people to join the group, share ideas on how services could be changed or improved, and be involved in making those changes - for the good of the patients and the practice.
