GP Appointments

Booking a routine appointment

You can book a routine appointment by telephone, on line or by calling into the practice. This also includes booking a telephone consultation with a doctor or nurse.
 
You can express a preference to see a particular clinician when you book an appointment . You can book an appointment up to six weeks in advance and can also be booked via our on line services. Please ask at reception to register for this service.

Urgent appointments

The practice runs a pre-bookable appointment system, if you feel that your condition is more urgent, you can ring for an on the day appointment, these can go quickly so it is best to ring at 8am or as soon after. You can also request a telephone consultation with a Doctor or Nurse who will contact you after their surgery. The Receptionist will take a message and your contact number.

Home visits

If you require a home visit from a doctor, please inform the surgery before 10.30am and give the receptionist the precise nature of your illness. The doctor will make a house call the same day. Home visits should be only requested when the patient is too ill to attend the practice and could only be moved by ambulance. Non availability of public transport is NOT a valid reason for a home visit.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

 

Well Done to Nelson Street Surgery for the great efforts they put into the MacMillan Coffee morning last week. A massive total of £484.14 was raised on Friday!!! For this worthy cause. Thank you to everyone both staff and patients that helped and supported our event.  A very special Thank You goes to Sheila Speakman for all the hard work , effort, in baking cakes and organising the raffle. Cancelling Your Appointments

Our text-to-cancel services allows you to send a simple text message directly to your practice to cancel your appointment, allowing it to be given to another patient.

By letting us know if you no longer need an appointment, we can ensure we offer as many available appointments as possible. 

Please note that text-to-cancel numbers are not answered and are used for text messaging only.

Online Services for Poplar Street Surgery

Sign up to GP online services and you'll be able to use a website or app to: 
  • Book or cancel appointments online with a GP or nurse
  • Order repeat prescriptions online
  • View parts of your GP record, including information about medication, allergies, vaccinations, previous illnesses and test results
  • View clinical correspondence such as hospital discharge summaries, outpatient appointment letters and referral letters
 
The service is free and available to everyone who is registered with a GP. 
 
How can I start using GP online services?
 
Follow these steps to access GP online services: 
  1. Take photo ID (passport or driving licence) and proof of address (such as a utility bill) to your GP practice and tell them you want to start using their online services. If you do not have any ID then either a member of staff will have to confirm your identity or you may have to answer questions about personal information in your GP record.
  2. Fill in the short registration form that you are given by your practice.
  3. Once you have signed up, you will receive a letter with your unique username, password and instructions on how to log in.

Our Patient Participation Group works toimprove communication between the practice and its patients, to ensure the services we offer meet the needs of all patients. We are always looking for enthusiastic people to join the group, share ideas on how services could be changed or improved, and be involved in making those changes - for the good of the patients and the practice.
